Lexington Avenue [8-10-21]
On the night of Tuesday, August 10th, 2021, the Merrick Fire Department was called to a house fire on Lexington Avenue in the dead end off Meadowbrook Road. When firefighters arrived on scene, they were met with a fire in a two-story private dwelling leading to the transmission of a signal ten [working fire]. Bellmore was designated the FAST for the operation and responded with Ladder 606. Firefighters stretched two hand lines and put one hand line into operation. The main body of fire was quickly knocked down and all occupants made it safely out of the residence. It was stated that the fire was caused by a lightning strike; however, the official cause is under investigation. All fire department units were under the command of Merrick Chief of Department Gavigan [6400].
