Merrick Avenue [3-28-22]

On the afternoon of Monday, March 28th, 2022, the Merrick Fire Department and NCPD ESU were dispatched to a school bus into a building with possible entrapment on Merrick Avenue. Those first to arrive on scene were met with a confirmed school bus into a building with a victim pinned between the bus and the structure. After a short time, the victim was extricated and transported from the scene to an area hospital in serious condition. Two additional people were injured because of the accident – the driver of the bus [the only occupant onboard] and the driver of a pickup truck that had collided with the bus. Technical rescue teams from North Bellmore/Bellmore and Freeport were called to the scene to assist. Merrick Avenue remained closed for the entirety of the afternoon into the evening as police investigated. Once the bus could be removed from the building the North Bellmore/Bellmore TRT was called back to the scene to help due to the significant structural damage.
