Merrick Avenue [7-20-22]
Late on the night of Wednesday, July 20th, 2022, the Merrick Fire Department was called to a building fire [reported smoke from the building] at 151 Merrick Avenue off West Loines Avenue. When firefighters arrived on scene, they were met with heavy smoke showing from a one-story taxpayer. A signal ten [working fire] was transmitted quickly followed by a second alarm. Firefighters began to stretch hand lines into the building; however, the fire was already well advanced and moments later members turned to an exterior operation. The fire went on to reach a third alarm equivalency which brought various mutual aid companies to the scene and to standby. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation. All fire department units were under the command of Merrick Chief of Department Ronnie Gies [6400].
