Sunrise and Merrick [7-24-12]
A violent collision occurred at the intersection of Sunrise Highway and Merrick Avenue in Merrick on the afternoon of July 24th. Seventh Precinct RMP 708 was the first to come across the one p.m. accident and confirmed that there was entrapment on scene. Emergency Services along with County Ambulances 2357 and 2377 and the Merrick Fire Department were called to the scene. Units on scene put tools into operation to free at least one person from the heavily damaged Honda Accord. At least four aided were taken from the scene and transported in Merrick FD ambulances 6414 and 6415 along with the County Ambulances. Those transported in the Merrick ambulances were taken to the County Medical Center as trauma patients while the aided inside 2377 was a twenty-five year old combative female patient. The extrication took approximately ten minutes to complete. Aside from two ambulances, the Merrick Fire Department also had Engines 642 and 643 along with Rescue 6412 on scene. Fire departments units were under the command of Chief of Department Fernandez [6400]. ESU sent units 2421 and 2423 to the scene to assist in operations. The accident consisted of two primary vehicles with one of them losing control and striking several parked cars nearby. R and U Auto Body of Baldwin responded to the scene to tow the vehicles.
