Whalen Avenue [10-28-17]

In the early morning hours of Saturday, October 28th, 2017 the Merrick Fire Department was dispatched to a reported porch fire at 2043 Whalen Avenue between Whaleneck Drive and Hewlett Avenue. When firefighters arrived on scene they were met with a small fire in the porch area of a two-story private dwelling. One line was stretched and put into operation off Merrick Engine 641. Firefighters made a quick knockdown of the fire and keep it from extending. Merrick Ladder 6411 was out of service at the time of the fire and Freeport Ladder 218 responded in its place. All fire department units were under the command of Merrick Chief of Department Scolieri [6400].
