Arlington Street [3-30-17]
Late on the afternoon of Thursday, March 30th, 2017 the Mineola Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire at 66 Arlington Street off Columbus Parkway. The fire was originally called in by a neighbor to the rear of the address given. As fire department units were on the way they were advised by Fire Com that Nassau County Police were on scene reporting a working fire. When firefighters arrived on scene they found heavy smoke and fire showing from 60 Arlington Street – a two story private dwelling. A signal ten [working fire] was transmitted and mutual aid notified. After making their way into the home firefighters discovered that there were battling colliers mansion type conditions. Multiple hand lines were put into operation to fight the fire which was present on both floors of the home. Mutual aid was called from Garden City, Garden City Park, and Williston Park among others. There were no people home at the time of the fire despite early and conflicting reports; however, a dog was inside at the time of the fire and did not survive. The cause of the fire is under investigation and all fire department units were under the command of Mineola Chief of Department Jeffrey Clark [1600].
