Raff Avenue [2-24-21]
On the night of Wednesday, February 24th, 2021 the Mineola Fire Department was called to a house fire with people possibly trapped on Raff Avenue between Sheridan Boulevard and Frank Avenue. When firefighters arrived on scene, they were met with smoke showing from a one and a half story private dwelling with all occupants safely evacuated. Upon further investigation fire was found in the basement of the home leading to the transmission of a signal ten [working fire]. Firefighters went on to put one hand line into operation and had the main body of fire quickly knocked down. Among the departments called for mutual aid to the scene was Garden City, Williston Park, and Carle Place [FAST]. Standing by for Mineola during the operation were units from New Hyde Park, Westbury, Albertson, and Garden City Park. The cause of the fire is under investigation and all fire department units were under the command of Mineola Chief of Department Robert Connolly [1600].
