Nassau County Fire Awards [4-27-16]
The Nassau County Fire Commission held their annual awards ceremony for 2016 on the night of Wednesday, April 27th. The event was held at the Francis X. Pendl Memorial Nassau County Firefighters Museum and Education Center in Garden City. Outside the ceremony an arch detail was provided by Port Washington Ladder 8517 and Inwood Ladder 313.
The awards for the night included:
- a gold medal of valor to Inwood Ex-Chief Joseph Sanford Jr. who died following injuries sustained in a Woodmere house fire in December of 2014
- a silver medal of valor to Port Washington Chief of Department Brian Waterson for rescuing a woman hanging from a cliff in Sands Point in July of 2015
- an ems citation award to Bayville Assistant Chief David Caso, EMT/Lt. Joseph Rodgers, and EMT/FF Kenny Syrett after successfully resuscitating one of their own members who became unresponsive on a difficulty breathing call
- unit citations were presented to the following departments for various incidents: Port Washington, Hempstead, and the Great Neck Fire Companies [Alerts and Vigilants] along with the technical rescue teams from Bethpage, North Bellmore, Manhasset Lakeville, and Port Washington
- an EMS unit citation was presented to the Great Neck Vigilant Fire Company
- civilian awards were presented to Anna Gornicz and Jose Madera for their quick, lifesaving actions after a fire broke out in a South Nassau Hospital room with patients in May of 2015
