Around 17:30 hours on April 7th the North Amityville Fire Company was alerted for a signal 13 [structure fire] at the Frontier Trailer Park located at 900 Route 110. Multiple calls were being received reporting the fire and when Suffolk County Police arrived on scene they requested a rush on the fire department. When the first fire department units arrived on scene they were met with a fully involved trailer in close proximity to other trailers. The working fire was immediately transmitted and the alarm retoned. With the transmission of the working fire South Farmingdale was notified to respond to the scene as the FAST. Upon the arrival of South Farmingdale Ladder 978 on scene its members were immediately put to work.
Along with South Farmingdale being mutual aided Amityville was notified for a full department response as well as units from East Farmingdale. Firefighter’s efforts were hampered by the close proximity of the trailers to one another and the propane tanks fueling each one. The main body of fire was inside of trailers located at 185 [vacant at the time of the fire] and 186 Buffalo Avenue while trailers at 182 and 187 Buffalo Avenue also suffered [significant] damage. With water on the fire firefighters were able to get a hold on the main body of fire within fifteen minutes into the operation. Approximately one hour into the operation the scene was placed under control [signal four transmitted]. The cause of the fire remained under investigation by the Suffolk County Fire Marshal’s Office. All fire department units were under the command of North Amityville Chief of Department Benloss [1-7-30].
