North Babylon Ladder 1-8-6 Wet Down [8-10-13]
On Saturday, August 10th the North Babylon Volunteer Fire Company held a dedication and wet down ceremony for Ladder 1-8-6 the newest addition to the department. Ladder 1-8-6 was built on a 2013 Pierce Quantum; however, the boom [ladder] was remounted from the previous ladder truck - a late eighties Mack. Also remounted onto the new apparatus was the Mack based outriggers. The remounting of the Mack ladder and outriggers onto the Quantum body was said to be the first of its kind in the nation.
After the truck was dedicated and the champagne bottles broken the wet down began. Various apparatus from within the neighboring departments lined Hale Road with deck guns ready. As Ladder 1-8-6 passed through [lights, sirens, and train horns blaring] it received the proper wet down. The rig is currently based out of Station Three on Wallace Court.
