Alice Avenue [6-3-15]
On the morning of Wednesday, June 3rd, 2015 the North Merrick Fire Department was dispatched to a report of an attached garage fire at 17 Alice Avenue [between Park Avenue and Lois Place]. When fire department units arrived on scene they found nothing showing; however, after making entry into the garage found a significant smoke condition as a result of an electrical fire in the wall. Moments later a signal ten [working fire] was transmitted. Merrick Ladder 6411 responded to the scene as the FAST.
The fire was believed to have started after the service from the pole to house dropped leading to a fire in the electrical panel. Despite a doorway from the attached garage into the home there was no extension into the home. The fire was held in check with one line in operation off of North Merrick Engine 672. Merrick Engine 643 and North Bellmore 651 were among the units standing by. All fire department units were under the command of North Merrick Chief of Department James Rogers [6700].
