Merrick Avenue Middle School [4-3-19]
At approximately 16:30 hours on the afternoon of Wednesday, April 3rd, 2019 the North Merrick Fire Department was dispatched to a car versus building at the rear of the Merrick Avenue Middle School. North Merrick First Assistant Chief Chris Fasano [6701] was among the first fire department units to arrive on scene. A forthwith response was requested for North Merrick Heavy Rescue 678 and the first due ambulance due to the heavy entrapment on scene. Upon the arrival of Heavy Rescue 678 multiple tools were put into operation. Moments later Nassau County Police ESU arrived on scene to assist in the extrication process. It took roughly twenty-five minutes for first responders to extricate the driver who was the only occupant in the vehicle. The driver was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries and there were no other vehicles involved in the accident. It appeared the driver was travelling north on Alfred Road West going on to crash through a fence at the end of the street, entering the school property and then crashing into the school building. There were no other injuries and the cause of the accident is under investigation. North Bellmore was called to the scene for their technical rescue team and all fire department units were under the command of North Merrick First Assistant Chief Chris Fasano [6701].
