Brower Avenue [4-16-16]
Minutes after 19:00 hours on the night of Saturday, April 16th, 2016 the Oceanside Fire Department was dispatched to a report of smoke from the building at 11 Brower Avenue. Oceanside First Assistant Chief Kevin Klein [241A] was among the first to arrive on scene and confirmed that he had smoke showing from the roof of a two story mixed occupancy. As a result of this condition the chief requested the mutual aid plan be started out. Moments later the signal ten [working fire] was transmitted. Freeport was designated the FAST and responded with Tiller 218. Oceanside Engine 2482 was the first engine company to arrive on scene and had two lines stretched with one in operation. Firefighters were able to make a quick knockdown of the fire and contain it to a first floor kitchen area. Searches of the apartments above proved negative and no injuries were reported. Additional mutual aid was provided by Long Beach, Island Park, and Baldwin. The cause of the fire is under investigation and all fire department units were under the command of Oceanside First Assistant Chief Kevin Klein [241A].
