Lawson Boulevard [6-19-12]

At 20:06 hours on June 19th, the Oceanside Fire Department was dispatched to a familiar address – 3436 Lawson Boulevard [Concord Avenue and Daly Boulevard as the cross streets]. On this particular evening, the additional stated smoke coming from the roof with the automatic fire alarm going off at Whistle Stop Desserts. The dessert maker was one of two businesses within the fire building, the other being a catering provider where the fire originated and was contained to. Upon arrival, Command requested a FAST truck to the scene and so Island Park responded with Ladder 223. Moments later, Baldwin was also called to the scene with an additional ladder. Seven minutes after the initial dispatch a signal ten [working fire was transmitted] after fire was found inside the racks of the catering facility. Oceanside Engine 2472 was the first engine on scene and three lines were stretched during the course of operations. Oceanside Ladder 244 was the first truck company on scene, taking to the front of the building and raising their ladder to the roof. Mutual aid also included Island Park Heavy Rescue 226 and Ambulance 222 on scene with Freeport Truck Company and Baldwin Engine 204 standing by on Foxhurst Road. A good amount of the fire was knocked down by the building’s sprinkler system; however, the smoke lingered and fans were put into place to address this issue. During operations, Island Park L223 was put to work and Baldwin Ladder 207 became the FAST team. The fire was the third inside the caterer in recent months, all fire department units were under the command of Chief Bettes Jr. [241].
