Columbia Engine Company 1947 Mack [11-27-22]
On the morning of Sunday, November 27th, 2022, Columbia Engine Company No. 1 of the Oceanside Fire Department opened the doors of their Smith Street firehouse and invited people to come see their 1947 Mack firetruck which they recently got back following a four-year restoration project. After being built in the mid-1940s the rig first served the Oceanside Fire Department for twelve years before it went on to various other assignments. Among these assignments was the Highland Fire Company in Florida. Following its tenure in the Sunshine State the ’47 Mack landed back in Oceanside in 2006. As previously stated, over the past four years the rig underwent a significant restoration which at times was delayed due to COVID; however, the Company saw the project through and now the rig looks as good as the day it came from the factory. Among those in attendance for the Sunday morning unveiling was iconic Mack firetruck salesman Karl Thuge - who in 1946 was a young Mack employee who had worked on the Columbia project. Congratulations to the Company and good luck with the antique!
