Redan Road [12-30-11]
At a time when manpower can be hard to come by, members of the Point Lookout-Lido Fire Department made an efficient knockdown of a mid-morning house fire on December 30th. The fire was located at 5 Redan Road between Carousel Lane and Fairway Road, just south of Lido Boulevard. PLL Engine 255 was the first on scene and immediately hit the hydrant located just across the street. Not long after them, Engine 253 pulled behind and lines were put into operation. PLL firefighters worked their way into the house and up to the second floor where the main body of fire was. The fire was heavy in two rear bedrooms of the home and auto exposed itself out the two, three corner when first arriving units pulled up on scene. When units first arrived, they had found that all occupants had safely evacuated the home. Point Lookout-Lido Ladder 254 was the first truck on the scene and took position in front of the home. L254 raised the ladder to the roof and sent members of PLL Truck up to ventilate. The signal ten [working fire] was transmitted by 2500, who also reported heavy smoke being visible before being on scene. During operations, command reported having exposure problems and lines were then focused on neighboring homes which began to succumb to the heat. The fire was toned out around ten in the morning leaving the PLLFD short on manpower on scene and therefore mutual aid was requested both to the scene and to standby at PLL Headquarters. Amongst the units on scene were: Freeport Truck [217-2 and 218], Island Park Ladder 223, and Long Beach Ladder 2372. The Long Beach Fire Department also sent one engine, one ambulance, and one command post unit to the scene. At Point Lookout-Lido Headquarters, was a Baldwin Ladder and Freeport Engine 211. All units were of the command of Chief of Department Brian Guerin.
