Slocum Avenue [11-7-15]
At 15:39 hours on Sunday, November 8th, 2015 the Port Washington Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house fire at 8 Slocum Avenue between Radcliff Avenue and Harbor Hills Drive. When fire department units arrived on scene they were met with heavy fire on the number three and four sides of a private dwelling. A signal ten [working fire] was immediately transmitted with Roslyn designated the FAST.
Approximately twenty minutes into the operation a second alarm was transmitted. This brought the original standby units to the scene [including a new FAST] as well as the Nassau County Fire Com Field Com Unit. The main body of fire was knocked down within thirty minutes. A total of four lines were stretched. Mutual aid was provided by units from Manhasset-Lakeville, Plandome, Albertson, Glenwood, and Great Neck Vigilants among others. The cause of the fire remained under investigation. All fire department units were under the command of Port Washington Chief of Department Brian Waterson [8500].
