Lincoln Court [5-29-12]
On the morning of May 29th, the Village of Rockville Centre experienced a village wide power outage that snarled traffic across town and left Rockville Centre Police scrambling. The Rockville Centre Fire Department was also various alarms, many of them elevator emergency calls. However, at 11:00 hours the RVCFD was dispatched to a reported kitchen fire at 23 Lincoln Court, just off of Lincoln Avenue. Village employees on the scene were reporting black smoke coming from the rear of the home. Rockville Centre Engine 444 was the first engine on scene and picked up a hydrant before pulling onto the dead end street. RVC Engine 443 was the second due engine on the scene and remained on Lincoln Avenue. Once on scene, the RVC chief confirmed the fire and transmitted the signal ten [working fire]. Firefighters found a fire in the basement and kitchen of the private dwelling that had extended all the way to the top floor of the home. Because Rockville Centre Ladder 447 was out of service at the time of the call, Oceanside was notified to respond to the scene. Moments later Ladder 2442 was on scene in front of the home sending their manpower to work. Also on scene were Lynbrook Ladder 427 and East Rockaway Ladder 403. Minutes before the reported house fire was toned out, units received at the US Post Office nearby on Merrick Road for a report of smoke in the building. Once on that scene it was found that the smoke was coming from the nearby working fire. About twenty minutes into operations, the main body of fire was knocked down. As units were on scene at Lincoln Court, Malverne Ladder 434 was responding throughout town to various power related incidents. East Rockaway was among the towns providing stand by at headquarters by sending one engine to cover.
