Long Beach Road [7-17-11]
Just after 19:30 hours on the evening of July 17th, the Rockville Centre Fire Department was dispatched to a building fire at 214 North Longbeach Road between Lakeview and Seaman Avenues. First arriving units found were met with heavy fire in the cockloft area of the E & W Greystone Delicatessens, a well known establishment in the Rockville Centre community. RVC Engines 443 and 444 both made considerable stretches into the fire, and Ladder 447 took to the front of the building. Not long into the fire a second alarm was transmitted and along with it multiple mutual aid units were requested both on scene and to standby at the RVC firehouse located at 103 Maple Avenue. Amongst the mutual aid units on scene were: Freeport Ladder 217, Baldwin Ladder 206, Hempstead Truck One, Malverne Ladder 434, Lynbrook Ladder 428, and an Engine from East Rockaway. Lakeview and Lynbrook also sent buses [ambulances] to assist on scene. Freeport Rescue 217-2 and a Lakeview Engine helped provide coverage in town while units were on scene. Some units were on scene for up to two hours or more, including the command post which was run out of 4401. The cause of the fire was believed to be electrical; the deli was undergoing renovation at the time of the fire.
