Rockville Centre Engine 443 Wet Down [10-2-16]
On Sunday, October 2nd, 2016 Rockville Centre Reliance Hose Company No. 3 held a wet down and dedication ceremony for the recently placed into service Engine 443. The event was held at the Reliance firehouse on North Forest Avenue – just up the road from where the rig had pulled first due to its first working fire a day prior. With a good crowd on hand the rig was formally dedicated in memory of Ex-Chief Harry Balz. The Ex-Chief was a Reliance member who rose through the ranks to the chief’s office over 50 years ago and was instrumental in getting the company to where it is today. Harry’s son was present for the event and unveiled the memorial plaque on the side of the truck. Once the dedication was completed and the champagne broken over the truck the wet down began with help from other Rockville Centre engines and Baldwin Engine 202. The best of luck to the company with their new rig.
