Debevoise Avenue [4-3-15]
At 02:37 hours on the morning of Friday, April 3rd, 2015 the Roosevelt Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a house fire at 87 Debevoise Avenue off of Charles Street. When units arrived on scene they were met with heavy fire throughout a two and a half story private dwelling. Firefighters attempted to make an interior attack; however, the fire was too well advanced and forced them to go with an exterior attack. Along with several hand lines Roosevelt Ladder 735 was in front of the home and in operation to assist in the fire suppression efforts. When all visible fire was knocked down overhaul began. It was at this time that firefighters found one deceased person on the second floor of the home in the one, four corner. Three other civilians were injured as a result of the fire with two of them having jumped from windows in the residence. All injuries were believed to be minor.
Mutual aid units to the scene responded from Hempstead, South Hempstead, Uniondale, and North Merrick. Standing by for Roosevelt during the operation were units from Freeport, Baldwin, North Merrick, North Bellmore, and Merrick. All fire department units were under the command of Roosevelt Chief of Department Derrick Fennell [7300]. The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
