Westfield Avenue [4-3-17]
At 01:16 hours on the morning of Monday, April 3rd, 2017 the Roosevelt Fire Department was dispatched to a reported dryer fire in the basement at 65 Westfield Avenue off Forest Avenue. When fire department units arrived on scene they were met with smoke showing from a two-story private dwelling. Upon making their way into the home to investigate firefighters confirmed that they had a fire in the basement and a signal ten [working fire] was transmitted. North Merrick was notified for the FAST and responded with Ladder 673. Additional mutual aid was called from Hempstead, Uniondale, South Hempstead, and Baldwin among others. Roosevelt Engine 733 was the first engine company to arrive on scene and put two lines into operation to fight the fire which extended to the first and second floors. In just under one hour the scene was placed under control. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Nassau County Fire Marshals Office. All fire department units were under the command of Roosevelt Chief of Department Fennell [7300].
