Elmhirst Drive [5-27-16]

At 18:27 hours on the evening of Friday, May 26th, 2016 the Roslyn Fire Companies were dispatched to a reported house fire at 16 Elmhirst Drive off of Wheatley Road in Old Westbury. The fire was first called in by a neighbor and was then followed by multiple calls – with some reporting a home fully involved. As the first fire department units got on the road and drew near the scene they were met with smoke showing from a distance. Upon arrival firefighters encountered a fully involved two story private dwelling that was vacant and undergoing renovations. An exterior attack was put into place after the first due companies needed to make a long stretch to the fire block. Glenwood was designated the FAST and additional mutual aid was called from neighboring departments. Among the departments notified were Port Washington, East Norwich, Westbury, Sea Cliff, and Jericho among others. The address was later to corrected to number 11 Elmhirst Drive and the exact cause of the fire is under investigation.
