Flamingo Road North [4-18-15]
On the afternoon of Saturday, April 18th, 2015 the Roslyn Fire Companies were dispatched to a report of a house fire at 9 Flamingo Road North in the East Hills section of their district. When firefighters arrived on scene they were met with heavy fire showing from the number two and three sides of a two story private dwelling leading to the immediate transmission of a signal ten [working fire]. Roslyn Rescue Engine 566 was the first engine company to arrive on scene and firefighters began to stretch upon the home and make an attack. Firefighters made their way into the home without incident; however, the fire began to extend aggressively. With fire working its way upwards progress was being lost and firefighters were forced to utilize an exterior attack. This proved to be the right decision when moments after exiting the home the fire was through the roof of the home. The heavy fire load led to the transmission of a second alarm which brought in a new wave of mutual aid.
The scene was placed under control approximately two hours into the operation. Mutual aid consisted of Glenwood Rescue 534 as the FAST, Port Washington Engine 8513, the Jericho rehab unit as well as units from Westbury, Glen Cove, East Norwich, Sea Cliff, and Garden City Park among others. All fire department units were under the command of Roslyn Highlands Chief of Department Adam Boll [5900].
