Northern State Parkway [2-15-15]

Late in the afternoon on Sunday, February 15th, 2015 the Roslyn Fire Companies and Nassau County Police ESU were assigned to a tractor trailer into an overpass on the eastbound Northern State Parkway at IU Willets Road. Nassau County Police who were among the first on scene were requesting a forthwith response from units who were on route due to the confirmed entrapment of the truck driver. However, moments later the request for a forthwith response was revised to a slowdown after the driver was pronounced deceased on the scene. Firefighters from the Roslyn Fire Companies tended to the fuel spill on the scene while NCPD ESU remained on the scene to help the secure the truck for the crime scene units. It appeared that the steel being carried on the trailer of the truck was thrown forward through the cab after the driver locked the brakes in an effort to avoid slamming into the overpass. The cause of the crash and resulting fatality remained under investigation.
