Lowell Road [12-23-12]
Around 20:30 hours on the night of December 23rd, the Uniondale Fire Department was toned out for a reported building fire on Lowell Road. When the first fire department units arrived on scene they found a fully involved, detached garage at 710 Lowell Road [Midwood Street and 1st Place as the cross streets]. Firefighters were receiving reports of possible propane and kerosene inside the garage. These reports were confirmed when the fuels began to ignite and let off. When the propane tanks began to take off they spread the fire load with them and in the process caught the home on fire. Fire consumed the rear of the home but firefighters were able to contain the extension to a minimum. Three lines were stretched and two were put into operation for the close to Christmas fire. When the signal ten was transmitted, North Bellmore responded to the scene with Ladder 657 as the FAST team. Standing by for Uniondale at the Sherman Van Ness Fire Station was an engine from Roosevelt and an ambulance from South Hempstead. The fire marshal was requested to the scene after a total of three twenty pound propane tanks and a one pound tank were found inside the garage. All fire department units were under the command of Uniondale Chief of Department Anthony Lebron [7500].
