Midland Street [5-29-13]
On the afternoon of May 29th the Uniondale Fire Department was alerted to a reported house fire at 1182 Midland Street with Manor Parkway and Pamlico Avenue as the cross streets. The Uniondale safety officer [Unit 7550] was among the first to arrive on scene and immediately transmitted the signal ten [working fire]. Units arriving on scene were met with a heavy fire load on the second floor of a two story private dwelling. Ladder 7544 [“Midtown Truck”] was the next unit to arrive on scene and stretched two lines to the residence. With the transmission of the working fire North Bellmore was notified to respond as the FAST. North Bellmore responded to the scene with Ladder 658. Not long after arriving on scene North Bellmore was put to work and East Meadow [Ladder 617] became the new FAST for the operation.
Also on scene as part of the mutual aid was Hempstead Truck One, West Hempstead Ladder 765, East Meadow Engine 611, Roosevelt Engine 732 and ambulances from South Hempstead and Lakeview [Ambulance 418]. Despite the amount of fire upon arrival firefighters had the main body knocked down with twenty minutes. Franklin Square and Westbury were among the departments providing standby for Uniondale during operations. Fortunately all occupants made it safely out of the home and the cause of the fire [the first working fire for Uniondale this year] remained under investigation. All fire department units were under the command of Uniondale First Assistant Chief Jeane Laurent [7501].
