Wheeler Avenue [5-22-16]
Late on the night of Sunday, May 22nd, 2016 the Uniondale Fire Department was dispatched to a reported dryer fire at 231 Wheeler Avenue off of Hospital Road in the northern most section of their district. When fire department units arrived on scene they were met with smoke showing from a two story brick residence leading to the transmission of a signal ninety-eight [smoke showing]. After further investigation firefighters found that they had a confirmed dryer in the basement of the building. At this time a signal ten [working fire] was transmitted. North Bellmore was designated the FAST but was disregarded a short time later after firefighters made a quick knockdown of the fire. Uniondale Engine 7533 was the first engine to arrive on scene and had two lines stretched with one in operation. At the time of the fire half of the building was being used for military housing while the other half was owned by Nassau County. All fire department units were under the command of Uniondale Chief of Department Vaughn Tucker [7500].
