East Hawthorne Avenue [5-8-23]

On the morning of Monday, May 8th, 2023, the Valley Stream Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a fire at Gershow Recycling on East Hawthorne Avenue. When firefighters arrived on scene they were met with a large, exterior rubbish fire. Valley Stream Ladder 345 was backed into the facility and its master stream was put into operation along with a hand line off Valley Stream Engine 344. Firefighters had the main body of fire quickly knocked down and were assisted in the overhaul process by Gershow Recycling heavy machinery already on scene. Firefighters operated for ninety minutes under the command of Chief Scanlon [3400]. Units from Elmont and Lynbrook helped to provide standby coverage.
