Cedar Creek Park [8-13-22]
On the evening of Saturday, August 13th, 2022, the Wantagh Fire Department operated on the scene of a fire involving multiple NICE [Nassau Inter-County Express] buses that had been taken out of service and placed into a field deep inside of Cedar Creek Park likely waiting to be auctioned off. Firefighters put several hand lines and one tower ladder into operation to extinguish the fire which consumed upwards of ten buses. During the operation mutual aid units were called to the scene to assist. Among the additional resources called to the scene was Bellmore Engine 601, Seaford Engine 682, and Massapequa Ladder 632. The cause of the fire [which led to smoke that was seen for miles across the Island] is currently under investigation. Wantagh First Assistant Chief Mathewson [6901] had command of the incident.
