Seaford Avenue [2-17-17]
Around 02:15 hours on the morning of Friday, February 17th, 2017 the Wantagh Fire Department was dispatched to a reported house fire at 2220 Seaford Avenue off Merrick Road. As fire department units were on the way they were advised that Nassau County Police were on scene reporting a working fire. When fire department units arrived on scene they were met with smoke showing from a vacant, two story private dwelling leading to the transmission of a signal 98 [smoke showing]. Moments later firefighters found that they had a confirmed fire in the basement of the home. It was then that the signal ten [working fire] was transmitted. Seaford was designated the FAST and responded with Ladder 683. Due to holes in the floors of the home and compromised stairways to the basement and second floor firefighters were forced out of the home and had to find other means to contain the fire. Wantagh Engine 693 and Ladder 6911 were the first engine and truck companies to arrive on scene. The fire marshal was requested immediately to the scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
