Sycamore Avenue [8-18-19]
On the night of Sunday, August 18th, 2019 all stations of the Wantagh Fire Department were alerted to a house fire [possible attic fire] on Sycamore Avenue off Broad Street. When firefighters arrived on scene, they were met with a confirmed smoke condition in the residence leading to the transmission of a signal ninety-eight [smoke showing]. Moments later a signal ten [working fire] was transmitted after firefighters located the main body of fire under the house in the crawl space area. Wantagh Engine 695 was the first engine company to arrive on scene and Seaford Ladder 683 responded to the scene as the FAST. Firefighters stretched three hand lines putting two of them into operation. The scene was placed under control within thirty-five minutes and the fire marshal was requested to the scene to investigate. Standing by for Wantagh during the operation were units from Massapequa, North Bellmore, and Bellmore. All fire department units were under the command of Wantagh Chief of Department Joe Gross III [6900].
