Ivy Street [11-18-19]
In the early morning hours of Monday, November 18th, 2019 the West Hempstead Fire Department was called to a home on Ivy Street for a brush fire near the house. As firefighters were on the way they were advised that police were on scene looking for a rush on the fire department due to fire extending into the residence. West Hempstead Assistant Chief Brohm was among the first to arrive on scene and transmitted a signal ten for a fire in a vacant private dwelling. Firefighters stretched and operated at least two hand lines. As a result, the fire was quickly knocked down and did not extend to the second floor of the home despite excessive contents throughout. Among the departments called for mutual aid was Franklin Square and Munson, Lakeview, Hempstead, and Elmont among others. The cause of the fire is under investigation and all fire department units were under the command of Assistant Chief Brohm [7602].
