Maplewood Street [12-18-16]
Late on the night of Sunday, December 18th, 2016 the West Hempstead Fire Department was dispatched to a report of an attic fire at 84 Maplewood Street off Fairlawn Avenue. As fire department units were on the way to the scene they were advised by Fire Com that a couple of calls were being received reporting the fire and that Nassau County Police were on scene reporting a working fire. Upon arriving on scene firefighters made their way into the home to investigate and moments later a signal ten [working fire] was transmitted. Elmont was designated the FAST and responded with Ladder 708 while Franklin Square and Lakeview each sent one engine to the scene. West Hempstead Engine 763 was the first engine to arrive on scene and put one hand line into operation in the attic of the two and a half story private dwelling. Firefighters were able to make a quick knockdown of the fire and the scene was placed under control in twenty minutes. Additional mutual aid consisted of an ambulance from Uniondale to the scene and units from New Hyde Park and Malverne standing by. The cause of the fire is under investigation and all fire department units were under the command of West Hempstead Chief of Department Pete Lilli [7600].
