Catherine Street [3-18-18]
Shortly before 7 p.m. on the evening of Sunday, March 18th, 2018 the Westbury Fire Department was dispatched to a reported of a house fire in a vacant home across from 191 Catherine Street off Division Street. When fire department units arrived on scene they were met with smoke showing from a two story, vacant private dwelling located at 184 Catherine Street. The working fire was transmitted by Westbury First Assistant Chief Kenny Gass [9602] for fire on the second floor of the home which had several windows boarded up at the time of the fire. Hicksville was designated the FAST but was put to work as an additional truck company upon arrival. Jericho, who responded to the scene with Ladder 941, went on to become the new FAST. Also, on scene was Engine 917 from Carle Place. Additional mutual aid was provided by East Meadow and East Williston. Two lines were stretched with at least one going into operation resulting in a quick knockdown. The cause of the fire is under investigation and all fire department units were under the command of Westbury Chief of Department John Bartunek [9601].
