Magnolia Avenue [3-10-21]
In the late afternoon hours of Wednesday, March 10th, 2021 the Westbury Fire Department was called to a structure fire at a powder coating facility on Magnolia Avenue off Main Street. As the first units were responding Westbury fire dispatch advised them that they were going to a reported oven fire with extension to the roof. Westbury Engine 969 was the first rig to arrive on scene and reported smoke showing. Moments later a working fire was transmitted by Westbury Chief of Department Gass. Firefighters began an interior attack; however, they soon realized that the fire was well advanced ahead of them. The working fire soon became a second alarm followed by a third alarm assignment. Multiple tower ladders and hand lines were put into operation to fight the fire which took several hours to contain and at its peak reached a fifth alarm equivalency. Various fire departments were called for mutual aid – either to the scene, to staging, or to standby. Fortunately, all occupants made it safely out of the building and there were no serious injuries reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation and all fire department units were under the command of Westbury Chief of Department Gass [9601].
