Merchants Concourse and Stewart [3-9-14]
At 15:22 hours on March 9th the Westbury Fire Department was dispatched to a reported overturned truck with entrapment. Responding units were given the location of Stewart Avenue and Merchants Concourse. Upon arriving on scene first responders found a six wheeled box truck overturned on its side and the driver of the truck walking around uninjured. Because there were no other vehicles involved and no fire department action needed Westbury units took up [were put on a signal thirteen] by the authority of Westbury Assistant Chief Bartunek [9602]. Also assigned the accident was Nassau County Emergency Services Unit 2424 – who helped to shutoff the truck when the refrigeration unit began to pour out white smoke. Gemma’s Towing was notified to upright and remove the vehicle and responded with various pieces of equipment to get the job done. Because this was a Fresh Direct truck several groceries were presumed to have not made it to their destination on time.
