New York Avenue [4-28-15]
The Westbury Fire Department was dispatched to an automatic alarm at 91 New York Avenue [D.F. Allen] on the night of April 28th, 2015. Westbury units had just finished from a previous call and were immediately on the road. When units arrived on scene they were met with smoke showing from a two story commercial building. Due to the size of the building and potential hazards within a working fire and second alarm were transmitted. The first two lines entered the building and made their way up to the second floor where firefighters believed the main body of fire to be located. However, when units arrived upstairs they found a heavy smoke condition and discovered the fire below them on the first floor. A payloader inside of the warehouse had caught fire emitting the heavy smoke condition. Firefighters made entry into the building from New York Avenue and Sylvester Street.
Mutual aid to the scene consisted of units from East Meadow, Syosset, Carle Place, and Hicksville among others. Once the fire was located it was quickly knocked down. The cause of the fire remained under investigation. All fire department units were under the command of Westbury Chief of Department Doug Ingram [9601].
