Old Country Road [9-26-19]
In the early morning hours of Thursday, September 26th, 2019 the Westbury Fire Department was called to a structure fire at the Harvest Diner on Old Country Road between Grayston and Hilton Streets. Westbury Chief of Department Kenny Gass [9601], among the first to arrive on scene, reported he had a kitchen fire with flames through the roof and asked the first hand line be stretched to the rear of the building. As firefighters began operating inside the building the fire quickly spread throughout. This forced firefighters to utilize an exterior attack and place tower ladders into operation. The fire reached a multi-alarm equivalency bringing in several mutual aid units to the scene and to standby. Some of the departments called included Jericho, Hicksville, Syosset, Bethpage, Mineola, Garden City, Hempstead, and East Meadow. Fortunately, the diner was closed at the time of the fire and there were no reported injuries. The cause of the fire is under investigation and all fire department units were under the command of Westbury Chief of Department Kenny Gass [9601].
