Park Avenue [6-26-16]
On the evening of Sunday, June 26th, 2016 the Westbury Fire Department was dispatched to a reported basement fire at 861 Park Avenue off of Garden Street. Responding fire departments were advised that multiple calls were being received reporting the fire, that everyone was out of the house, and that there were multiple burn victims. Westbury Chief of Department John Bartunek [9601] was among the first fire department units to arrive on scene and reported smoke showing from the rear of a two story private dwelling. Moments later the working fire was transmitted with Hicksville notified for the FAST. Also called to the scene was Mineola VAC and an ambulance from East Meadow. Westbury Engine 966 was the first engine to arrive on scene and had at least one in operation for what ended up being a first floor bedroom fire in the three, four corner. One civilian sustained burns to fifty percent burns and was transported to the County Medical Center in serious condition. Units from Jericho and Carle Place stood by for Westbury during the operation. All fire department units were under the command of Westbury Chief of Department John Bartunek [9601].
