Sheridan Street [4-26-15]
In the early morning hours of Sunday, April 26th, 2015 the Westbury Fire Department was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at Broadway and Sheridan Street in the New Cassel section of their district. When units arrived on scene they found heavy fire throughout 240 Sheridan Street – a two story vacant home. The working fire was immediately transmitted and mutual aid was notified. Westbury Engine 966 was the first to arrive on scene and three lines were operated to fight the fire. Firefighters faced various challenges during the operation including the loss of the stairs to the second floor and a compromised deck in the rear of the home. No injuries were reported and within thirty minutes all visible fire was knocked down.
Mutual aid units on scene at the second alarm fire included Plainview Ladder 9533, Williston Park Ambulance 866, Jericho Engine 942, East Meadow Engine 614, Carle Place Engine 917, and Hicksville Ladder 936 [designated as the FAST]. Syosset and Garden City were among the units standing by for Westbury. All fire department units were under the command of Westbury Chief of Department Doug Ingram [9601].
