Stewart Avenue [6-13-12]
Just after 13:00 hours on June 13th, 2012 multiple agencies responded to 632 Stewart Avenue in East Garden City for a report of a white powder that had been found inside a building. Nassau County Police sent cars from the Third Precinct to the scene along with their Emergency Services Units, Hazardous Material Units, and at least two ambulances. The Nassau County Fire Marshal deployed their hazardous material units to the scene as well. These specialty units set up a perimeter and decontamination zone around the building in question. The Westbury Fire Department was also called to the scene and sent Engines 965 and 967 along with Ambulance 9611. Members of the Haz Mat teams made entry into the building, One Main Financial, in class B hazardous material suits. Upon exiting the building, all those in the special suits were put into the decontamination zone where they and their suits were cleaned down. The white powder in question was recovered, removed, and what exactly it was and where it came from were under investigation.
