Tatem Way [1-25-18]
At 21:31 hours on the night of Thursday, January 25th, 2018 the Westbury Fire Department was dispatched to 5 Tatem Way in Old Westbury for an automatic alarm. When firefighters arrived on scene they were met with smoke showing from a large, brick mansion leading to the transmission of a working fire. Firefighters went on to find fire in the basement as well as on the first and second floors of the home. Moments later a second alarm was transmitted – the fire went on to reach a fourth alarm status. At least three hand lines were stretched and put into operation. As many as three firefighters required medical attention with none of the injuries being considered serious. All searches throughout the home proved negative. Among the departments mutual aided were: Roslyn, Carle Place, Plainview, Syosset, East Meadow, Mineola, Jericho, Garden City Park, and Mineola VAC among others. Nassau County OEM and Fire Communications were also on scene. The scene was placed under control just past the two-hour mark. The cause of the fire is under investigation and all fire department units were under the command of Westbury Chief of Department John Bartunek [9601].
