Tappen Beach [9-14-14]
On the afternoon of Sunday, September 14th, 2014 Nassau County Police responded to the boat launch at Tappen Beach in Glenwood Landing for a report of a vehicle into the water. When police arrived on scene they found a Ford SUV completely submerged in the water – the second time in three days a vehicle had made the plunge at that location. In both incidents the drivers were able to safely make it out of their vehicles and were on the dock awaiting the arrival of police. After some time a tow truck from the Nassau County Police Emergency Services Unit arrived on scene followed by divers from the NCPD Marine Bureau. ESU and Marine Bureau Officers used a cable and hooked onto the vehicle. From there it was slowly pulled out along with the boat trailer that was still attached. The SUV was then removed from the scene by a private tow company.
